Careful Reading, Making Inferences

Hello all!

Yesterday we did some careful reading in pairs using some rich science literacy resources.  Some students read about Jurassic Food Chains, others about Micro Food Chains, and the rest read about Apex Predators.

The students traded off while reading these rich texts and then had to answer some challenging questions about what they had read.  Working in pairs, they achieved what they would have not been able to achieve alone!  Finally, a vocabulary activity so that we can keep the new words we learned in use!

               RECICLAGEM DE PAPEL

        Completamos um mês da campanha de reciclagem de papel que está envolvendo toda a equipe de funcionários e os alunos da ABA Global School!

"A reciclagem do papel é de extrema importância para o meio ambiente. Como sabemos, o papel é produzido através da celulose de determinados tipos de árvores. Quando reciclamos o papel ou compramos papel reciclado estamos contribuindo com o meio ambiente, pois árvores deixaram de ser cortadas. Não podemos esquecer também, que a reciclagem de papel gera renda para milhares de pessoas no Brasil que atuam, principalmente, em cooperativas de catadores e recicladores de papel."

    Estamos responsáveis por uma das etapas mais importantes deste processo : a coleta seletiva.
        Em cada sala foram disponibilizados lixeiros especiais onde as crianças deverão colocar todos os papéis descartados após atividades de recortes, pesquisas, desenhos... 


      As crianças estão sendo orientadas pelos professores e lembradas pelos próprios colegas para que nenhum outro material seja depositado nestes lixeiros. 
      A família pode ajudar conversando sobre a importância desta ação. Algumas crianças trouxeram papéis de casa para darem o destino correto aqui na escola.
        Todo o papel coletado na ABA Global School  foi levado para o depósito de uma empresa que levará o material até uma fábrica que finalmente irá fazer o processo de reciclagem.
       



        Conseguimos coletar 12 quilos de papel!



       Esperamos criar nas crianças um hábito de REPENSAR o uso deste material e de RECICLAR o que for possível.

Working With Place Value

Place value is a concept that can never be left aside for too long. It is a concept that is fundamental to understanding all sorts of operations, functions, equations and it is essential to the beginnings of algebra, which are coming up soon.  

The way we practice place value in class is in partners using interactive place value notebooks so that the students can have fun while challenging each other to create larger and larger numbers. They also challenge each other to decompose the number in various ways.
