Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief Chapter 3

In the following groups you are going to make a character collage.  

Group 1: Beatriz, Mariana A., Joao S.
Group 2: Marianna S., Joao P., Isabela, Gabriel
Group 3: George, Juliana, David
Group 4: Heloísa, Carlos, Thiago, Ana Carla

Here is what you need to do in your groups:

1. Make a list of characters you have met in the book so far (you should have 7)

2. Draw a picture of each character on your big piece of paper and write their name underneath their picture.

3.  Find a quote about them from the book (it can be a description of the character or something they said) and write this underneath their picture.

Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief: Chapter 2

When you finish reading Chapter 2 you can pick which activity you want to do.

1. Answer the chapter questions in your ELA notebook (questions below).

2. Complete a chapter graphic in your ELA notebook (directions below).


Chapter 2 Questions

Directions: Pick seven questions to answer.

1.  Why does Percy think the whole school is playing a trick on him?

2.  Why does Percy decide to study for the Latin exam even though he’s given up on his other subjects?

3.  What leads Percy to believe that Grover and Mr. Brunner think he’s in danger?

4.  After the Latin test, what do you think Mr. Brunner was trying to say to Percy? Why does Percy react angrily to Mr. Brunner’s words?

5.  How does Percy say he’s different than the other kids at Yancy Academy?

6.  Why does Percy tell Grover he’s a really bad liar?

7.  What responsibility does Grover claim to have, and why does this strike Percy as strange?

8.  How do Percy and Grover end up on the side of the highway?

9.  How does Grover react when Percy tells him about the yarn-cutting?

     10. What does Percy think the yarn-cutting means? Does Grover seem to agree or not?

Week 10!!


                          

It is hard to believe we are already in week 10 and this week in Year 5 we worked very hard on many different activities.  In science we finished our biome travel journals and shared them with each other.  We have been going to the cyber room every week to research our specific biome and find out more information.  After researching, we wrote in a travel journal about our journey to our biome and drew pictures describing what we wrote.  After finishing our journals we shared them with the nursery students and each other!

In math, we are working on solving word problems using six steps which includes drawing pictures of what we read.  We made problems in groups and had other groups try and solve the problems we made.  




In ELA, we started writing letters to our pen pals in Malaysia!  We used the writing process and the steps on how to write a friendly letter to make sure our letters were perfect for our new friends :)

Reading Buddies

This week, we participated in a reading buddy activity with the nursery students.  We shared our biome travel journals that we have been working very hard on, and also created posters with our new buddies :)  Every other week, we will be meeting with our little buddies reading and sharing our classroom projects.  Also, in ELA this week and next week, we will be writing our pen pal letters to students in Malaysia!

To practice your math facts (multiplication and division), here are some websites you can use:

(for this one set the level of difficulty), then choose the operation (multiplication and division), and then set a time limit (you decide!)
